May 19th 6:30-8:00pm
Downtown Kenosha Catholic
For girl ages 9-12 and their parents
Please note girls must attend with at least
one adult to participate
Downtown Kenosha Catholic will be hosting Cycle Prep on May 19th and you and your daughter are invited to attend. Cycle Prep introduces girls to menstrual cycles, periods, and body literacy in a positive, adult supported environment. Cycle Prep encourages girls to respect their bodies and equips them to navigate the natural changes which come with menstrual cycles.
What is Cycle Prep? It is a program for parents and daughters to attend together to learn alongside one another and start the conversation. You'll gather with your host Tori Franke to watch a series of 8 short videos on a variety of relevant topics. You'll be provided with a work book to follow along with the presentation and a variety of resources to support you long after the night. Resources include book recommendations for parents, period kit checklist, conversations with your pediatrician guide, and more. The entire evening will be facilitated by a trained Catholic cycle health educator who will guide the group through the evening.
Why is parent participation required? References are made in the videos to the adult who is attending with you, so it is very important that at least one adult caretaker comes per family. Though this is typically a mother, any mother-figure, dad, or other person who has a close relationship with the girl attendee is welcome. The important thing is for each girl to have a support person who attends with them, so she can bring the experience back to her home life.
We respect parents as primary educators and want to support you in that role rather than take your place. You are your daughters primary support and we desire to support you stepping with her into this next phase of life. The goal is that by learning alongside one another we support you in opening up a dialog on this important topic. You want your daughter to know that she can come to you throughout her life for support, love, and education. We know from conversations with countless parents that having a bit of scaffolding around this initial education for menstrual cycles can have a huge impact for fostering long term positive experiences for both of you!
How do I know if Cycle Prep is right for us? Watch a parent preview video introduction from the creator of Cycle Prep. Hear an overview of the night and the topics covered in Cycle Prep. Then decide if that is good fit for your daughter and family.
What if I can't make it on the 19th, or what if our family prefers to start these conversations in private rather than a group setting, can we still participate in Cycle Prep? YES! If you are interested in Cycle Prep, but prefer to offer it one-on-one in your home or simply can't attend the day of our group presentation, you will love Cycle Prep for in-home use. Get all the details here!
I'm so glad you have resources for girls and their cycles, do you have any resources for adults and their cycles? Yes we do! You can find more at the Archdiocese website and our resource library.
I still have questions! Reach out to your host Tori Franke she would be happy to chat with you. [email protected]
