As the Church Worships: Fundamentals of the Liturgy

Tuesdays:   February 8, 15, 22 and March 1

1:30-3:00 p.m.

This four-week webinar series serves as an introduction to the liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church. Participants will gain the basic knowledge needed to prepare the liturgy or to serve in a liturgical leadership role. This webinar series is appropriate for parish lay ministers, liturgy committee members, or anyone who would like a refresher in liturgy.

Session 1: Introduction to Liturgy

This first session will unpack the definition of the word “liturgy” and develop a basic understanding of its key elements (ritual, symbol, gesture, Scripture, ministers, assembly).

Session 2: The Order of Mass, Part I

This second session will first discuss what is meant by “source and summit,” followed by a study of the Order of Mass by examining the Introductory Rites and the Liturgy of the Word.

Session 3: The Order of Mass, Part II

In this third session, we pick up where we left off on our study of the Order of Mass with the Liturgy of the Eucharist and the Concluding Rites, with particular attention on the different sections of the Eucharistic Prayer.

Session 4: The Liturgical Books

This fourth session will study the various books used in the celebration of liturgy, including an introduction on how to read the Ordo and use the Roman Missal.
